I have a lot of trouble with things that don’t seem true to me,” … “I’m very uncomfortable just accepting. There’s something in me that wants to pound the table and say, ‘That’s not true”
-Michael Crichton

It’s so interesting — as a scientist this was Michael Crichton’s overriding philosophy, & it no doubt shaped his wordview & approach to life, but yet he was able to strech the boundaries of real science & weave them into incredible, sweeping, boldly visual narratives in his books, films, & screenplays.

In a way, I view my own philosophy & personality very similarly… my training as a lawyer has shaped (indeed, almost demanded) a very skeptical, logical & pragmatic attitude towards adopting viewpionts as my own, and yet I don’t consider myself a pessimist- on the contrary, I hope & dream in bold, almost fantastic images (both when awake & alseep!). In short, there’s a sharp contrast between my logical exterior & my almost childlike interior.

Perhaps that’s why Crichton’s works apealed so much to me; they balanced the practical & realistic with the magical.

We’ve lost a great muse. RIP Michael Crichton.
